This is the most updated web site I can find with a map showing all the locations of free hotspots in Rome- Roma Wireless. Again you will need a valid cell phone in Italy to register. The registration process requires you to enter your cell phone number and use the phone to call a special toll free number to validate your account within a few minutes of the regestration process. Once they receive your call, your password will be displayed and email to you. Your username will be your cell phone number. I am not sure if it will work with a US cell phone number that is roaming in Italy. As of now the limit is 1 hour a day.
