I just saw the Pirates of the Caribbean- At World's End movie with my kids yesterday. The movie was fun and I didn't fall asleep. However, the best part was the fact that I took an afternoon off and goofed around with my kids. My daughter went with bunch of her friends from middle school and I took my son and his friend.
Now back to the subject of my blog- International Callback. The callback process is useful when people travel outside of the US and want to call back home without paying the very expensive international phone charges common in other countries. The callback system is cost effective because international calls are much cheaper when the calls originate in the US.
Once you are signed up with a service, you would call a pre-assigned phone number in the US from outside the US. Let the phone ring once and hang up and thus not to incur a phone charge. In a few seconds, your pre-designated phone will ring from the US with a dial tone from the US to make phone calls.
In most countries, incoming calls to a cell phone are free but the caller is charged extra for calling a cell phone. Therefore, there are different charges for the international callback if one uses a cell phone vs. a land line phone.
I did some research online on different callback services and the one I have signed up with is callbackworld.com. The process is very simple. There is no charge to get an account and the savings is significant. Using a fixed land line from Italy and calling to the US is $0.09 per minute. Using a cell phone to call the US is $0.358 a minute and I was told by the company that it is going down to about $0.28 a minute in June, 2007 due to a drop in cell phone charge in Italy.
If you are going outside of the US for vacation, make sure you look into setting up an account.
